Book Report Reminder

In case this paper has gotten lost, here are the details for the Cereal Box Book Report.

Due October 3rd

1. Find an empty cereal box. Cover with paper. (I suggest a light color so that you can easily read writing and see pictures.)
2. On the front, create a cereal that represents the story.

(ex: Timon & Pumba cereal with bug marshmallows.)

         Draw a picture of the cereal and the name of the cereal on

         the front of the box. You can include one of the main characters

         “advertising” the cereal if you would like. Be creative!

3. On the back of the cereal box, create a puzzle/game having to do with your book. Examples: crossword, maze, matching pictures…
4. On one side of your box, list the Ingredients. This should contain a summary of each main character and the plot of the story.
5. On the other side of the box, write a summary of the story (NOT the blurb on the back cover) Also list “Nutritional Information”  – ex. 96% humor, 3% mystery, 1% drama.
6. On the top of the box, write the Title of the book, # of pages, the author, and the # of stars you’d give the book.
7. Put your name on the bottom of the box. Turn in on time. You will lose 5 points every day your book report is late.
8. Present your book report in class. Your presentation will be a 30-

60 second television commercial.  Practice your commercial to make sure of the wording and the timing.  Do not just encourage the audience by using opinion words (exciting, great, interesting, best, good, etc.), but also by featuring elements of the book- scenes, facts, etc.  Be dynamic and try to convince the audience to buy the cereal whether you liked the book or not.  Optional:  Be a character from the book when you present your commercial.

You will be graded on the following:

         Creativity and Neatness – 45 points

         Name of Cereal – 5 points (original, relates to story)

         Nutritional Facts and Summary – 15 points

         Information Included – 20 points (included all other required info)

         Game – 5 points (creative, relates to book)

Presentation – 10 points (eye contact, able to talk about book – not  

    just reading information from the cereal box)

Points will be deducted if the report is not turned in on time AND/OR if the book did not meet all the requirements (1on reading level, never read, chapter book)

Extra credit will be given for going above and beyond (ex. REALLY creative, prize inside box having to do with story, etc)
